Stelmach says environmental toll from oil sands is a ‘myth'

And with your name I'd expect you would know that France now primarily depends on nukes for power...

So one rusting Russian plant -Chernobyl - means nothing. If it did, we would also not drive because one old car crashed once.

And the rock of the Canadian Shield is an ideal place to store nuclear 'waste' until we learn how to process it further.

Wisconsin Sports Spectacular

My suggestion...Move Bill Hall back there. He obviously wasn't comfortable in center, which affected his bat. It's time to give Tony Gwynn Jr. the keys to center, Hart in right, and Braun in left. Eric Gagne will get his mojo back in Milwaukee, this is the year to make some noise at Miller Park and get into the playoffs. Packers No Superbowl in 08 for the Packers. Brett Farve will come back for another year pushing my Canton Ohio vacation back another year. They will draft defense to build a solid defensive squad like the one the Ravens had in 02. They will also build that offensive line up to create solid foundations on both sides of the ball. Grabbing a QB in the late rounds to back up Rodgers for life after Farve would be a good idea. Nall isn't the guy, because he isn't good enough. They will need somebody who can actually play because it looks like Rodgers is incredibly fragile.

Yvonne Wackernagel from Woodville, Canada writes: Let us concentrate on Canada. Remember that CMHC which insured all those "5% down" mortgages.....

Afternoon Yvonne. You bring up an interesting point. Whatever happened to the days of 25% cash down? And why lower the CMHC thingy from 10% to 5%.

House ownership is a great thing-but also dangerous in the wrong circumstances.

Canadian banks are now offereing similar products to their US counterparts-one being paying interest only on a mortgage!

What was even more surprising was the amount of money banks are willing to loan to younger folks based on their earnings. They all have "mortgage calculators" on their web sites and believing in their selfish pursuit of profit only, they are allowing strangling credit to young homeowners.

ALEXANDER: "I'm not quitting" over donor crisis

When people face the danger of a criminal prosecution under the 2000 (Elections) Act then normally you step aside from your position so you can concentrate on clearing your name, if that's what her intention is."

Lord Maxton, the former Glasgow Cathcart MP, and Baroness Adams, who was Labour MP for Paisley North, have written to the police urging them to investigate whether the Sunday Herald broke the law by revealing they had given money to Ms Alexander's campaign. They claim that, as the donations were less than £1000, their anonymity should have been protected.

Last night Sunday Herald editor Richard Walker said: "Of all the issues facing the Labour Party just now, the one that should be the least concerning them is how matters of legitimate public concern get into the public domain."

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has given Ms Alexander until tomorrow to provide it with information about her donations.

In fact, Romney's ad stood out not so much for its negativity, but for its very existence in a year in which both parties are experiencing wide-open races for the White House.

"There were lessons learned last time that no one wanted to repeat," said Steve McMahon, who worked for Howard Dean in the 2004 campaign and now is a Democratic strategist. "Namely that the attacker wasn't the beneficiary of the attack, and they turned out to be their own victim."

In the past, "the Democrats were always having a food fight on its way to a fist fight on its way to a knife fight," added Dennis Goldford, a professor at Drake University who has studied Iowa's caucuses for two decades.

This time, he said, "I think that while we had the occasional occurrence of something that seems like a personal attack, by and large it has been fairly civil."

Among Republicans, he singled out Romney for his ads critical of Huckabee.

How to be Generous Without Spoiling the Grandkids

When my children were younger, their grandparents in New York kept a scrapbook of their favorite comic strips to read aloud when the kids came to visit. Meanwhile, their Pittsburgh grandparents sent them copious clippings about the Steelers, the kids' favorite football team.

Both sets of grandparents bought traditional presents as well, but it was those gifts of time and thoughtfulness that were most memorable. And that's worth keeping in mind this holiday season, when gift-giving by grandparents, well-intentioned and generous as it may be, can cause tensions on both sides of the generation gap.

Spirit of giving.

In a recent survey by AARP Financial, 79% of the grandparents said that their grandkids don't understand the value of a dollar. (And they often say the same about their adult children.
