Extra! UIdaho Student Found Shot to Death

After a year or two on the job, they make good money and benefits, in addition to the amenities of living in this area. How many in our county are paid $30.00 to $45.00 or more an hour, including benefits? A number of them are two teacher families, and have an RV and boat parked in their driveway. The IEA is a UNION!
While, there are many dedicated, excellent teachers, a lot only look at the bottom line, and are able to hold our children hostage until they get more salary and benefits.

Arpie: I just got out my December 06 pay stub so I could tell you what last year looked like. At age 48, having taught since 1981, my gross pay was a little less than $46,000 last year. Subtract from that $7,000 in taxes, including social security: $6,000 for my familys health insurance, and $3,000 for my half of my retirement, and the total dwindles quickly as it does for anyone that is trying to support a family.

Economists Debate the Quickest Cure

President Bush highlighted both those basic approaches on Friday in setting out his principles for a deal with Congress to address the current downturn. Democrats are also likely to seek increased spending for programs like unemployment insurance or to funnel more money to states, an approach that Mr. Bush signaled he would oppose.

"The research I've seen indicates that the programs in 2001 clearly worked," Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr. said in an interview, referring to the tax measures. "They worked quickly, and people spent the money they got. The thing we should be looking at now is how to make them even more effective."

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office reported this week that each of the three elements of the 2001-2 stimulus — personal tax rebates, incentives for business investment and government spending programs — played a role in lifting the economy.

Britain ‘seen as a soft touch’

Imagine how many millions are wasted rearresting criminals over and over again. This money could be used to better police our streets.

Realists are just seen as extremists in this Country with an agenda of Mediocraty and misplaced social welfare.

Nigel (Scotland) - no one is suggesting that most immigrants are anything other than decent, honest, hard-working people. Given how many Blair and Brown have let in, it's just as well for us that they are! And yes, you're right, we all share one planet; and I'll happily invite Poles, Romanians, Nigerians or Filipinos to tea any time to enjoy a piece of cake and chat about our different cultures.

Bush calls for $145B package to boost sagging economy

WASHINGTON — President Bush, acknowledging the risk of recession, embraced about $145 billion worth of tax relief today to give the economy a ``shot in the arm. `` Bush said such a growth package must also include tax incentives for business investment and quick tax relief for individuals. And he said that to be effective, an economic stimulus package would need to roughly represent 1 percent of the gross domestic product — the value of all U.S. goods and services and the best measure of the country's economic standing.

Women accuse auditor hopeful

He faces Republican Lorenzo Garcia, a retired government auditor, in the Nov. 7 election. The state auditor seat is open because Democrat Domingo Martinez has reached his term limit.

Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz said his department sent information on the most recent case to the District Attorney's Office on Aug. 18.

"We did the investigation and sent it to the District Attorney's Office and are awaiting their decision," he said.

Schultz said the investigation was handled as any similar allegation would have been and was not given special treatment because of Armijo's candidacy.

Brandenburg said Friday that her office began reviewing the case Monday. She said such cases are difficult to investigate and that it might take months to determine whether there are grounds for charges.

Factbox: Obama, Huckabee on key issues

He has criticized the Bush administration's foreign policy for an "arrogant bunker mentality".

Obama: Wants to begin immediately withdrawing one or two brigades a month and have all troops out within 16 months; would call a UN-led constitutional convention in Iraq that would not adjourn until reconciliation reached; aims to refocus energies on Al-Qaeda threat in Afghanistan and Pakistan;

Immigration
Huckabee: Opposes granting amnesty to illegal immigrants or granting driver's licenses to them; says those caught illegally entering the United States must be detained, processed and deported;

Obama: backs boosting the number of immigrants allowed in the United States; would permit undocumented workers to pay a fine, go to the end of the line for citizenship and learn English in order to stay in the country; would add personnel and technology to protect the US borders.

CHEMISTRY LESSONS: A dying teacher's decision to begin cooking drugs ...

Walt White is a study in ordinariness. His mustache is dull and drastically out of date. His wire-rimmed glasses are the bland rectangles of a dedicated square. Even his drab textured sweaters send the message that this is a forgettable man.

Like the rest of middle-aged, middle-class America right now, Walt is struggling to make ends meet, teaching high school chemistry and holding down a part-time job at a car wash. Then, as he turns 50, his life goes from slightly depressing to downright awful when he's diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Assume our imaginary person, a delivery man, gets an income of 100 rupees a day and that all of his consumption is imported. He spends 96 rupees on petrol and four rupees on other things.

Assume further that petrol is raised to 97 rupees.

The nature of energy is such that there is an economic imperative to consume it. Our man has to go to work for example. People are willing to spend on energy because they seem to get huge returns from doing so, like going to work. So demand for oil is fairly inelastic.

If he continues to use petrol, paying 97 rupees, he has to cut down other imported goods to 3. There is simply no other alternative unless our imaginary person gets into debt.

So the bulk of the import compression in a fuel price rise in the very short term will come not from oil but from other imports.
